10 Propósitos para aprender inglés (New Year’s Resolutions for Learning English)
Ahora que el 2020 casi ha acabado, es tiempo para pensar en los propósitos de año nuevo. Uno de los propósitos más recurrentes es aprender un nuevo idioma o mejorar el que ya conocemos. Si no sabes cómo empezar, aquí os dejamos 10 propósitos para aprender inglés en 2021. Y además, para empezar con buen pie, os los vamos a detallar en inglés para ir practicando.
1. Start English classes
There are many ways to learn English, but none are as effective as learning from a qualified and experienced teacher who knows exactly what you need and helps you to achieve your goals! You can start with a few classes a week and do extra work at home which will have you improving in no time!
2. Surround yourself with English.
This sounds more difficult than it is. Change the settings on your phone, computer, television, Spotify and anything else you can think of to English. That way when you are doing your day to day activities you will be immersed in the English language which we know is the best way to learn.
3. Have a space for your new words
Create a designated space where you can make note of the new vocabulary you discover. This can be a wall in your house where you put post its, a noticeboard or a little notebook. Every time you encounter a new word, write it down and revise it at a later date so that it sticks in your mind.
4. Learn a word every day
Set yourself a goal that you will learn a new word or expression every day. You can get an app to help you, 6,000 words is great for this, or one of those ¨one a day¨ calendars that will give you a new word every day. You will be surprised how quickly your vocabulary will grow.
5. Read in English
Whether it’s a book, a magazine or newspaper, there is no better way to build your vocabulary and improve your comprehension than reading. Make sure if you start a novel that it is suitable for your level! As you read you can make a list of new words to add to your word wall or notebook!
6. Take a trip to an English speaking country
Immersion really is the best way to learn, so (restrictions permitting!) you can plan a trip where you will have to use English on a daily, routine basis. It also gives you an added motivation to practice the language before you go!
7. Communicate with other English speakers
It’s very important that you practice as much as you can. You can go along to an ¨intercambio¨ or even join some English speaking groups online. The app ¨Hello Talk¨ is a free language exchange app meaning you can do it from the comfort of your own home!
8. Watch movies and series in English
It is really helpful for both comprehension and vocabulary to watch as much as you can in English. You will not only learn new words but also see how people communicate in a natural way as well as sentence structure. It’s also a fun way to improve your English!
9. Download some Apps.
There are many, many applications out there that will help you learn English and some of them can be a lot of fun! Some of the most popular ones are

10. Document your progress
Documenting your progress is great for a variety of reasons. Firstly it allows you to see your progress and how far you’ve come when you feel discouraged. Secondly, since you will write it in English (of course!) you will be practicing while documenting. Thirdly it allows you to share your journey with others!
